Fingers of Fire
“Black and White” magazine single image contest. Won first place for Landscape photography, 2016. This image will appear in the April, 2016 issue.
This was a photograph of intense fog and cloud activity over Hell’s Canyon on the Idaho – Oregon border. Around 5:00 a.m. in early June, 2015, the first rays of the morning sun transformed the bottom of the cloud layer into what appeared to be fingers of fire pointing down into the canyon. The phenomena lasted just a few minutes, but the scene will be forever burned into my memory. It was both surreal and beautiful to behold.
