Salmon River Art Guild’s annual art show held in Riggins, Idaho, is their primary juried show of the year. It always generates interest and entries from artists across Idaho, eastern Washington and eastern Oregon. I always look forward to this show because there is always some excellent art showcased. I entered 5 photographs into the show and 4 received recognition. I feel very fortunate and honored. The following pieces were recognized:
Central Idaho Art Association annual show held in Kamiah, Idaho, showcases Association members art. The community of Kamiah votes on their favorite art piece of the show. This year, (September, 2014), my photograph entitled “Land Before Time” was chosen for People’s Choice Favorite. There were over 60 entries in the show. Dark Room Gallery, located in Essex Junction, Vermont, runs a monthly on-line photography competition. Upwards to 1,000 photographs are competing for 60 or 70 spots in the gallery. The subject for the August, 2014 show was “Blue”. I entered “A Mood of Blue” , which was chosen for this show. This photograph was taken at Point Arena lighthouse in northern California. I had wanted a sunset photograph of the lighthouse, but the weather was not cooperating. After coming up with nothing for an evening photograph, I chose to spend the night in my pickup, parked alongside the highway, with the plan to catch the early morning light around the lighthouse. An unexpected storm with strong winds greeted me. I saw that the morning light and color was going to be hindered by thick clouds. So I decided to focus on the waves pounding the cliffs, which added to the stormy atmosphere. I was happy with the end result of this image.

This photograph was selected for display in the 1650 Gallery which is located in Los Angeles, California. The subject for this gallery showing was “Flower Power 2013”. I feel honored to have my first ever entry into a juried gallery show be selected for the showing. I think that there were 650 entries and 50 photographs were selected to be hung in the 1650 art gallery. I plan to enter other gallery judged shows as a tool to get my work seen and also to get feedback as to the quality and subject matter of my work.
